West Midlands Trainee Network to hold Professional Practice Day

Thursday, 22 March 2018

The West Midlands Healthcare Science Trainee Network will be holding a Professional Practice Day for up to 30 STP trainees at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital on Monday 23rd April. The day will be packed with practical workshops that will give trainees the knowledge and skills they need to successfully complete their professional competencies as well as diving into specific topics such as negotiating, interdisciplinary work and how to take a patient’s history.

Ciara Batterton, co-chair of the West Midlands Trainee Network, said: “This Professional Practice Day will be a fantastic opportunity for trainees from across the region, and we are extending the invitation to trainees in the East Midlands too. The day will be particularly useful for first year STP trainees who are getting to grips with how to complete competencies but it may also benefit second and third year trainees who need to quickly tick off competencies in the topics we are covering.”

All participating trainees will receive a certificate of attendance with a description of the workshops they have completed which can be submitted as evidence towards nine competencies which will be covered by the day’s five workshops:

  • Good scientific practice overview and workshop
  • Negotiating workshop
  • Interdisciplinary scenarios
  • Taking a patient history workshop
  • Health and safety workshop

The day’s events will begin at 10am and finish at 4pm. Spaces are limited to 30 and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis so if you are interested, email Ciara (This email address is being protected from spambots.
