Health Education England Silver Scientist Programme

The Health Education England (East Midlands) Clinical Scholar Silver Scientist Award has been developed specifically for Clinical Scientists and provides individuals with a 30-day bespoke programme of development to support an application to the Higher Specialist Scientific Training (HSST) programme.

The programme is available to Clinical Scientists working within Life Sciences, Physiological Sciences, Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics and Bioinformatics professions who are currently registered and have a strong interest and suitability for a research focused clinical career. As an applicant you should have a Masters level qualification or equivalent in your area of scientific specialism. The programme is completed over six months and you are required to commit to 30 days attendance. If you are successful in getting on the programme, funding is available for the organisation you work at to help facilitate this.

It is anticipated that upon completion you will have completed:

  • A fully worked up application to the HSST;
  • A written research proposal in your area of interest;
  • A presentation of your research proposal to be delivered to an invited audience;
  • A mock interview with an action plan for any areas for improvement;
  • Up to 10 placement days;
  • Six educational days to include leadership and management, research skills and interview & presentation skills.
