Any employer providing Healthcare Science services can sponsor an employee to undertake an ASP Programme. Programme Specifications for available ASP Programmes can be found on the available programmes page. If the available ASP programmes do not meet the identified needs, new ASP programme can be proposed by any employer providing Healthcare Science services; see proposing an ASP programme.

ASP programmes will follow the academic year with all trainees beginning the work based programme at the start of the academic year. For ASP Programmes at STP level, trainees will undertake OSFA in the summer of their final year of the programme. The Application form and Learning Agreement and must be received by NSCHS by 31st May to begin the programme in September of the same calendar year.

Applying for ASP

Any employer providing Healthcare Science services can sponsor an employee to undertake an ASP Programme. Applications for available ASP programmes can be made by the employer by submitting the Application and Learning Agreement. Applications must be received by 31st May to begin the programme in September of the same calendar year.

Guidance for applying to an ASP programme

  • Programme specifications for ASP programmes available for application will be published on the NSCHS website. The ASP Programme code and costs can be found in the ASP Programme Specification document.
  • Any employer providing Healthcare Science services can nominate an employee to join an ASP programme.
  • To submit an application for ASP, the employer must agree to the terms of the Learning and Data Sharing Agreement to demonstrate they have understood their responsibilities for the ASP programme. The trainee will complete the Learning and Data Sharing Agreement as part of the enrolment process at the beginning of the academic year. Employers may also wish to put a separate training agreement in place with the trainee and should be guided by their trust or institutions local training and development processes.
  • Employers are responsible for nominating a suitably qualified training officer for each trainee and for provision of essential resources and support to enable the trainee to successfully complete the programme, as outlined in the Learning Agreement. Training officers must be practising at the appropriate level and specialty for the ASP programme. Training officers will be asked to complete a form summarising their Education and Training qualifications following nomination.   • Employer sponsors are responsible for approving the trainee’s enrolment on the programme based on their existing qualifications and experience. The NSHCS will not enforce or undertake independent checks of any qualifications, experience or pre-requisites suggested in ASP programme aim.

Payment

  • A purchase order number is required to complete the application form. The programme specification details show the programme costs and the supplier is Health Education England (T73 Receivables F489).   • Fees outstanding at the start of the ASP programme may jeopardise enrolment on the programme.
  • Once an application has been submitted, if the Trainee is unable to take up their place to undertake the ASP programme in September, the cost of the programme will be refunded, minus an administration fee. Notification that a trainee is unable to undertake the programme must be received by 1st September of the year the programme begins to qualify for a refund.
  • If fees or any other required information and/or documentation are outstanding at the start of the ASP programme, this may jeopardise enrolment on the programme.

University enrolment

  • Trainees may enrol at any NSHCS accredited University currently providing the relevant curriculum. Enrolment at the University and payment for the programme of study is the responsibility of the employer and trainee. Academic study must be carried out within the same timeframe as the ASP Programme.
