The STP Curriculum content review project

The Scientist Training Programme Curriculum Content Review Project began in 2019. To help our stakeholders keep up to date with the progress we have created a visual and interactive tracker.

Through the tracker, you will be able to see how each specialty curriculum is progressing via the milestone completion boxes and by clicking on a specialty, you can see more detailed information such as relevant updates or any call to actions.

You can view the Curriculum Review Project Tracker here.

We will be recruiting experienced Clinical Scientists for each STP specialty to act as Lead Editors. The Lead Editor will head a Specialty Curriculum Review Group. The Review Group will be facilitated by the School and it will include:

  • Clinical Scientists;
  • Academics;
  • Professional body members;
  • Patient representatives.

The Review Group will draft an updated specialty curriculum. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for stakeholders to comment on the draft. The Review Group will consider the comments and amend the curriculum as necessary. We will be asking for your input, so please keep an eye on our news feed for more information or complete our short survey to express an interest in contributing to the review.

The finalised curriculum is then approved by the regulator, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC will make sure updated curriculum follows the standards of Good Scientific Practice and trainees following the programme will meet all the requirements for registration as a Clinical Scientist.

We will carefully manage the roll out of updated curriculum to make sure everyone understands what they need to do and how the change will affect them. We will also be introducing processes to make sure the curricula are kept under review and are regularly updated.
